"Note to the House" des englischen Parlaments zu RAF-Hendon:

"CENTENARY OF POWERED FLIGHT AND THE UK AVIATION INDUSTRY"
Dec. 9th 2003

As an Amendment to Honourable Mrs. Theresa May's proposed Motion ("Centenary of Powered Flight and the UK Aviation Industry"), signed by the Hon.: Mr Andrew Dismore, Mr Stephen Pound, Dr. Rudy Visby, Mr. Frank Cook, Mr. Jeremy Corbyn, and Dr. Julia Lewis

That this House notes that 17th December marks the centenary of powered, sustained and controlled flight; congratulates the UK's aviation industry for playing a major role in both civil and military aviation during that period; believes that aviation is critical to the UK's prosperity; recognises that air travel is essential for business and economic success; realises that almost 180,000 people in the UK are directly employed by the industry and that well over half a million jobs depend on aviation; understands that much of our tourism industry depends on the availability of air travel; appreciates that people in more remote parts of the country require air services for essential journeys; applauds the industry for successfully competing in a deregulated market and opening up air travel to all through lower fares, as well as enable national defence and the one of our allies; and wishes the industry well in facing the challenges that need to be addressed as it enters its second centenary.

"We also welcome the opening of the new wing at the RAF museum Hendon, which provides a modern exhibition space in which the museum has provided a highly imaginative display of its collection of historic aircraft to illustrate the development of flight over the last 100 years, together with its relocation and restoration of the Grahame-White aircraft factory, the first aircraft factory in Britain, on the site to display imaginatively the museum's collection of contemporary aircraft of World War I vintage. This urges honourable Members and their families to pay a visit during the holiday-season and to see this wonderful new facility for themselves."
